We recently announced that Digital Visitor had been appointed to deliver a festive season social media campaign for Plymouth City Council and we are delighted to announce that the campaign is now live.
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a well-discussed topic at the moment, and for good reason. It will transform the way we collect customer data, the way this data is used for marketing purposes and the way this data is stored; incurring some pretty hefty fines for those found to be in breach of these regulations.
Most destinations have spent many years gathering large email databases to communicate with potential visitors in the hope of encouraging them to visit. But now the focus is on making sure that all this data is GDPR compliant in order to continue to use it after 25th May 2018, when GDPR comes into full effect in the UK.
Therefore, this latest campaign with Plymouth has been developed with this in mind, so that any new data captured will be GDPR compliant and safe to use after the new changes are in place.
The additional benefit of running a campaign like this is, is that you can also use it to target all of your existing contacts to invite them to enter, which then makes their information compliant as well.
If you have large existing databases, you still have plenty of time to act to ensure your data is GDPR compliant. Our advice – be clever about the way you approach this and don’t miss opportunities to not only capture new compliant data but convert your existing non-compliant data as well.
